Eurovision Song Contest

Even if you ignore the balkan block vote and what appeared to be an attempt by the Serbian government to fix the result Eurovision demonstrates the unpopularity of the UK.

Scooch produced what was a good Europop number, but appeared nowhere in the results because of political allegiances.

Oh, come on!

No-one likes europop anymore other than the silly buggers who vote to select the UK entry.

No-one else - not even the Scandis - tried europop this year.

I was fully expecting nul points when Ireland and Malta saved the day. Good for them! (and tactical voting) Perhaps when the UK has a decent entry, we'll get a few points.

The British entry reminded me of watching a dire 'Young Generation' dance number in an particularly bad 1970s episode of the BBC's Summer Time Special. I had to hide behind the sofa.

Scooch were rubbish. Possibly the worst of the night.

I would not have been surprised if they had ended up with zilch.

Goodness knows what they have ben putting in the water in Malta!

Its not just the inane entertainment industry that gets snubbed by the eastern block.
You try and compete in industry.
Our products are like our Euro pop entry...of better quality.
The eastern block products are tacky and of lower quality.
Yet we buy their products ...because they are cheap.
I would say a decent analogy all round.

Six months for recording a court hearing - Norman Scarth

The link is in Russian about the imprisonment of Norman Scarth who is actually 85. He has a complex history including a court hearing which found that he used a chainsaw to fight off bailiffs when he was 75. [a court judgment which is disputed see comments] However, that does not justify imprisoning him for 6 months for recording a court hearing (see the link and ask google to translate it if your Russian is not up to it). It has got into the Argyll News Because he has been held such that people cannot get to him to sign paperwork an application for a writ of Habeas Corpus was made today. This has been adjourned until next week. The English judicial system is really not good at responding to major abuses of human rights by the judicial system.
