Thankyou 13,648 times to the people of Yardley

As the newly elected MP for Yardley I am intending to start my campaign of listening to the people of Yardley. Sadly, however, today I need to attend a funeral. The campaign will, therefore, start tomorrow.

Regular readers of this blog may have noticed that I have not posted anything for a few days. I have been a bit busy.

However, normal service will resume in the near future (and hopefully a picture of more of the cats).

Sir,

Congratulations.

Midlands based Lib Dems are throwing their hats in the air with joy... they're sending him off to London. Although, having heard he intends to continue on the Council, it will be long faces all round there. Presumably there's a small queue of Lib Dem councillors waiting to suck up to Mike Whitby.

Keep the seat warm John, we're having it back!

Thanks all.

Bob: The Labour Party said this when I won Acocks Green 15 years ago.

We'll be back. The boundaries change next time round and the forecast battle between Roger Godsiff and John should be most entertaining.

A temporary setback caused by a number of temporary issues. 2009, with Gordon in power, Yardley will come home as the nation swings back to Labour.

Yours was not the only postal ballot that went astray. Yours was particularly odd in that your partners' arrived and yours did not.

I will be chasing up these issues.

For the moment the MP Advice bureau is Saturday at 11am.

I have edited my blog entry about the advice bureau to ensure that it is clear that it is held in our "centre for world domination" ie at 1772 Cov Road.

The arrangement to do Saturdays at 1772 is an immediate arrangement. I need to review the best approach for the whole constituency.

Personally I feel it may be better to have a regular and frequent bureau at a central location than to have monthly ones that move around. However, we will probably issue a survey on Focus to find out what the constituents want about this. I will be having a number of meetings on Friday nights in Birmingham so I probably won't do Friday nights.

Its the long genes that stop working

People who read my blog will be aware that I have for some time argued that most (if not all) diseases of aging are caused by cells not being able to produce enough of the right proteins. What happens is that certain genes stop functioning because of a metabolic imbalance. I was, however, mystified as to why it was always particular genes that stopped working. Recently, however, there have been three papers produced: Aging is associated with a systemic length-associated transcriptome imbalance Age- or lifestyle-induced accumulation of genotoxicity is associated with a generalized shutdown of long gene transcription and Gene Size Matters: An Analysis of Gene Length in the Human Genome From these it is obvious to see that the genes that stop working are the longer ones. To me it is therefore obvious that if there is a shortage of nuclear Acetyl-CoA then it would mean that the probability of longer Genes being transcribed would be reduced to a greater extent than shorter ones.
