Hall of Fame

John Hemming, Lib Dem MP for Birmingham (Yardley) is planning a regional hall of fame. "Birmingham was supposed to have a Hall of Fame on the current site of the ICC many years ago. This did not happpen. As part of promoting Birmingham within the region I beleive we need a hall or wall of fame. This will recognise the many successes of people in the region. Clearly this is something that will require the involvement of specialist committees to review each area such as sport, music, comedy, theatry, industry etc. I think it is also important that the public should be involved in deciding who are the top people in each category."

"I have been discussing this with members of the local media and also have a potential site identified although an agreement has to be created. The Evening Mail is backing the idea and will be asking their readers to take part in suggesting names. "

"Clearly the decision as to who is the top local comic, top local musician/band or top local sportsman is one for local people to take. Should it be Jasper Carrot or Lenny Henry, UB40 or Ozzy Osborne. That's a decision for the people, not me or other politicians. In terms of people from History, Joseph Chamberlain is an obvious candidate. Regionally Shakespeare also has a guaranteed slot."

Lenny Henry, of course, isn't a Brummie.

He's from Dudley.

Personally I would describe the region as Mercia, you may describe it as the West Midlands as might the government, the LGA etc etc. Hereford may not be sure where it is, but I am sure Dudley is.

Lenny Henry is not from Birmingham, but Jasper Carrot isn't even vaguely funny.

Trudiagnostic change PACE leaderboard algorithm - was in position 40, now position 44 - does it matter?

Trudiagnostic have changed the way they handle the Rejuvenation Olympics Leaderboard algorithm. The result of this initially was that I was globally no 40 and have now dropped to 44. Trudiagnostic are a US company that get samples of blood and they look at the DNA to see which parts of the DNA have methyl groups (CH3) attached to them. These modifications to DNA are called methylation markers. DunedinPACE is an algorithm which uses DNA methylation markers in white blood cells to work out how quickly or slowly someone is aging. I had three results on this. The odd thing about the results was that whilst my epigenetic age calculated from the same methylation markers was going down, the speed at which I was aging was going up. I find this somewhat counterintuitive. It is, however, I think relevant that in a global contest my approach on biochemistry which is quite different to many other people's does seem to keep up with others working in the same area. To that extent it...
