Campaign Spam time again.

There is another spamming campaign going on whereby an organisation is spamming Lib Dem MPs from all sorts of addresses. This means hundreds and thousands of emails being sent essentially exactly the same.

This means I have had to configure my spam filter to delete these without warning. Apologies if this means that anyone else's email is deleted without response.

Actually I have found that it is Labour Left and Eoin Clarke.

"Pledge in a single click to never ever vote Lib Dem ever again if they allow this NHS Bill to become law"

So we have a load of Labour Left followers pledging not to vote Lib Dem. Not really a strong argument.

Whichever way it is something that undermines my constituents' ability to contact me quickly and, therefore, is wrong.

I have been sending out emails using Eoin Clarke's page. I have been personalising mine, but many people do not have the time to do the same.

I would like you to know that I am not a follower of "Labour Left" - I voted Lib Dem at the last election.

Many of those using Eoin's page have only been made aware of him because we have been scouring all news sources for any updates on the hated NHS bill. This bill is causing much distress and fear to many people, and the fact you dismiss all those who oppose it as politically motivated Labourite "spammers" is deeply offensive to those of us who have genuine, justifiable concerns.

As I said, I voted Lib Dem at the last election – but never, ever again.

It remains, however, that this campaigning technique is counterproductive.

I need to be contactable by my constituents.

even if we did live in a democracy and i was allowed to vote (never been convicted of anything as far as i am aware) i wdn't vote for anyone who dos ANYTHING to support the NHS, pigyobs and the lik ein their current form....

which doesn't leave anybody. of course, if any politician did come along advocating a policy of people bing held accountable for the crimes they commt, regardless of hair colour, gender, whetehrr they ahve a penis or not who their employer happens to be....well, look at the pre-emptive strikes slapped on Robert Green....now what is likely to happen someone who refuses to accept the govt propaganda sheets that come 'round occasionally....? if i burn them does it count as treason?

and why is the spaam filter calling me a stinkee haterer? ;-) very mature...

I've discussed NHS reform with Eoin (and you) and know that he comes from a position of concern and not pure party political advantage. I did think that the 'just click to send a message' was rather naive. If I received a lot of identical spam I'd pretty much ignore it.

There has been a segment of politically engaged people who lie in that vast hinterland between the Yellow Bookers and Labour Left who have been concerned with the NHS changes. However, there's a bigger slice of potential voters who either don't care about the changes or just don't understand them. That is unfortunate.

Whether is position is valid or not is not the issue. Spamming people does have an effect. It stops them being able to communicate with people generally. It shuts down communication.

Its the long genes that stop working

People who read my blog will be aware that I have for some time argued that most (if not all) diseases of aging are caused by cells not being able to produce enough of the right proteins. What happens is that certain genes stop functioning because of a metabolic imbalance. I was, however, mystified as to why it was always particular genes that stopped working. Recently, however, there have been three papers produced: Aging is associated with a systemic length-associated transcriptome imbalance Age- or lifestyle-induced accumulation of genotoxicity is associated with a generalized shutdown of long gene transcription and Gene Size Matters: An Analysis of Gene Length in the Human Genome From these it is obvious to see that the genes that stop working are the longer ones. To me it is therefore obvious that if there is a shortage of nuclear Acetyl-CoA then it would mean that the probability of longer Genes being transcribed would be reduced to a greater extent than shorter ones.
