Secret Medical Files

AFAIK there is one reason that medical files may not be released. That is because they could be harmful to the patient- this is certainly the case in some mental health cases.

Please forgive me if I have this wrong, but I always understood that a patient's record was the property of the NHS. In other words, they are maintained by the GP in respect of his PATIENT.

A patient's access to her/his records is surely only as permitted by law.
